A 1 or 2 hour walk can be arranged by your hotel or lodge. Take a local guide for a better experience. A bottle of juice and some sandwiches is advised.
Entering the forest
Forests can be cool and enjoyable. Try not to make too much noise as you walk; then you have a better chance to see wildlife. Often , there are lots of intersecting game-trails; which makes it easy to get lost. This is a forest in Nandi.
Descending an escarpment
Always gives beautiful views when taking a break. The hiking is generally easy, especially in the early morning or evening. If the track is very steep, it can be hard on the knees and "jogger's toe" is a common aftermath. This is Elgeyo escarpment.
Ascending 400m escarpment
An easy to moderate hike and children tend to do better than adults. This is climbing the upper escarpment in Elgeyo Marakwet. Take plenty of breaks.
Forested Hill trek
Cool and shady and generally not too demanding as the altitude is moderate. But, beware, rain can make the track muddy and treacherous ----- especially on descent. This is Kipteber Hill, Elgeyo Marakwet.
Taking a refreshment break
This is an important part of any hike. The break will be extra enjoyable if you can find a scenic spot. This is just below the summit of Kipkunur Hill (3063 m) in Elgeyo Marakwet.
