The shield, in particular, is an iconic symbol of the Nandi tribe which was famed for its prowess in war. They even defeated the Masaai in a famous battle at Kipkaren (the place of spears) sometime in the late 1800s.

They are instrumentalist and singer, so, when entertaining, they wear their finest dress and ornamentation. Notice the similarity of this to that of the Samburu (to whom the Njemps are related).

The ladies are dressed in their traditional dresses of cow hide and have smeared their faces with clay. They have really gone back in time. The lone male, the trumpet player, has the Colobus skin hat (“koroisit”).

prepare for the wedding. The adornments and decoration will be exceptional —- even by the normally high Samburu standards.

The traditional stool can be used for sitting on, but also as a hard pillow when resting or sleeping. Men of a few other tribes (such as Pokots), use similar, but differently named, stools to a lesser extent.
