In the desert, the car behind always eats the dust of that in front; ---- so there is no driving in convoy. Regular stops to meet up and discuss issues are a must. Of course, one always looks for a bit of shade (however minimal).
A desert campsite …..
is not recommended in the daytime. When it has to be done, make sure you have some sort of canvas for protection from the sun.
Overnight in the high forest
It’s going to be a very long, cold night. Arrive at the site with enough time to collect firewood and do the cooking. A common mistake is to drive too long and arrive in darkness.
Sun setting and still no campsite
It happens occasionally. Be prepared to sleep on rocks. Experienced safari men (and women) often have an emergency sleeping space --- designed or improvised --- in the car.
A rocky night
This is a rocky and windy site in the Suguta Valley. An uncomfortable night; but ones awakens in the morning to breath-taking scenery.
A firelight dinner
The fire is almost as important as the food. Its warmth, some liquid refreshments and good conversation ---- and a good sleep is almost guaranteed.
